Horde Hero ("the game") is made by Kindleforge Games (sole proprietorship), Denmark. Kindleforge Games is the data controller for the data described here. Contact: support@kindleforgegames.com.
The short version
- No account. You never give us your name, email, phone number or location to play.
- Your progress stays on your device. Your save file is stored on your computer or iPhone, not on our servers.
- Game statistics (optional, off unless you say yes) send anonymous numbers about your runs to help us balance the game. You can switch them off any time in Settings → Anonymous run stats.
- PC: no ads, no in-app purchases and no other tracking.
- iPhone: ads come from Unity LevelPlay and its ad partners. They collect data about this device to show and measure ads. Inside the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland you choose whether that data may be used to personalise ads, and on every iPhone, Apple asks whether we may track you. If you say no, you still see ads, but they are not personalised. Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your card or payment details.
1. Data stored on your device (PC and iPhone)
The game saves your progress (heroes, gear, gold, gems, stages, stars, records, settings and your privacy answers) in a file on your device. It is not sent to us.
- PC: the save is in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Horde Hero Studio\Horde Hero\(the free demo uses its own folder). Uninstalling the game and deleting its save folder removes it. - iPhone: deleting the app deletes it. If you use iCloud backup, Apple backs it up as part of your device backup under Apple's own privacy policy.
2. Optional anonymous run statistics (PC and iPhone)
After your first run the game asks once ("Help balance the game?") whether you want to share anonymous run statistics. It is off unless you say yes, and you can switch it off any time in Settings → Anonymous run stats. If it is on, the game sends one short report at the end of each run. We use the reports only to make the game better balanced: which stages are too hard, which powers are too strong or too weak, and how long runs take.
A report contains:
- a random ID the game creates on your device (a string of letters and numbers). It's the same for all your reports, so we can tell one player's 20 runs from 20 different players. It isn't linked to your name, your Steam account, your Apple ID or your device's hardware;
- the game version, whether it's the PC or iPhone version and whether it's the demo;
- the run: the hero, the land and stage, whether it was a Daily Challenge, whether you won or reached the boss, the run time and boss time, your level, monsters defeated, gold earned and spent, whether you revived, the health you had left, your power rating, the difficulty, and the Endless World Level;
- your build: which powers and passives you had, their levels and how much of the damage each one did, the gear you wore, and the runes, pacts and enchantments you picked in town;
- a few totals from your save: total runs played, total stars, elites defeated and chests earned.
A report does not contain your name, your Steam name or ID, your Apple ID, your email, your location, your advertising identifier, any chat or text you type, or anything about other programs on your device.
- Where it goes: a database run by Supabase (supabase.com) on servers in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). The game can only add reports; it can't read them back.
- Your IP address: like any internet request, Supabase receives it to deliver the report, and may keep it for a short time in its technical logs. We don't store it with the statistics, and we don't use it.
- If you're offline: up to 30 reports wait in a small file next to your save (
run_reports.jsonl) and are sent with the next one. - If you switch it off: reports that have not been sent yet are deleted from your device.
- How long we keep it: up to 24 months, then it is deleted. We only publish combined numbers (for example "60% of players beat stage 1-3"), never single reports.
- Legal basis (GDPR): your consent. You give it by pressing "Yes", and you can withdraw it at any time in Settings. Saying no doesn't change anything in the game.
3. PC (Steam)
The PC version has no ads, no in-app purchases and no other tracking. Apart from the optional run statistics above, the game itself sends nothing to us.
The game is made with the Unity engine, which may send one anonymous hardware report (for example the graphics card and Windows version) to Unity Technologies. Games made with Unity do this by default.
On Steam, Valve handles your account, purchases, Steam Cloud save sync, achievements, leaderboards (Daily Challenge scores, best Endless time, total monsters defeated) and the "rich presence" line your friends see (for example "Stage 2-3, 4:12"). Valve's privacy policy applies: store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement. We get no personal information from Valve through the game.
The demo's "Wishlist" buttons open the Horde Hero page on the Steam store in your browser or the Steam client.
4. iPhone
The iPhone version isn't released yet. This section describes it as it will ship.
Advertising (Unity LevelPlay and its ad partners)
The iPhone version is free and paid for by ads:
- short videos you choose to watch for a reward (a revive, double gold, an extra card reroll, a second free chest);
- at most one ad between runs, from your 4th run on, at most once every 5 minutes. Never during a run. Buying "Remove Ads" turns these off.
To show these ads we use Unity LevelPlay (Unity Technologies; mediation) and the ad networks it works with. At launch these are ironSource Ads and Unity Ads, both run by Unity.
What these companies may collect from your device:
- advertising identifier (IDFA): only if you allow tracking in Apple's prompt;
- IP address, from which a rough location (country/city) can be derived;
- device information: model, operating system version, language, screen size;
- ad interaction data: which ads were shown, whether you watched or tapped them;
- performance data about ad loading.
They use it to show ads, to measure them, to prevent fraud and, only with your consent, to personalise ads.
Your choices:
- EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland: the game asks once whether ads may be personalised (two equal buttons). You can change your answer any time in Shop → Ad privacy. If you say no, the ad partners are told so (LevelPlay's consent setting) and show non-personalised ads.
- Apple's tracking prompt (App Tracking Transparency): if you ask the app not to track, your advertising identifier is not shared. You can change this any time in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. If you said no to personalised ads above, the game does not ask this.
- US privacy laws: if you don't allow tracking, the game also sends a "do not sell or share" signal to the ad partners.
Legal basis (EU): personalised ads: your consent. Non-personalised ads, frequency capping and fraud prevention: our and our partners' legitimate interest in funding a free game.
Where to read more: Unity's privacy policy, unity.com/legal/privacy-policy, and Unity's Game Player and App User Privacy Policy, unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy.
In-app purchases (Apple)
Purchases go through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment and keeps the receipt.
- What we receive: only which product was bought, so the game can deliver it (gems, Remove Ads, ...).
- What we never receive: your name, Apple ID, card or address.
- Restore Purchases asks Apple to re-deliver one-time purchases on a new device.
Unity's in-app purchase library handles the store connection on the device.
Game Center (Apple)
If you are signed in to Game Center on your iPhone, the game reports achievements and leaderboard scores to Apple. This is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We see only the public leaderboard entries that Apple shows to every player.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the game schedules local reminders on your iPhone (for example, that your free daily chest is ready). They are created on the device. No push notification server is used and nothing is sent to us.
5. Children
We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, children included. The run statistics are anonymous and off unless someone presses "Yes".
- PC: the game is suitable for a general audience.
- iPhone: the game is not directed at children under 13. The ads are not personalised for players who decline.
6. Your rights (EU/EEA, UK)
You have the right to:
- access, correct or delete personal data;
- object to processing;
- withdraw your consent at any time: Settings → Anonymous run stats; on iPhone also Shop → Ad privacy and iPhone Settings → Tracking.
We hold no account data about you. The run statistics carry no name or account, so we can only find your reports if you send us your random ID.
- To get them deleted: find your ID in Settings → Your stats ID (under "Anonymous run stats", with a Copy button) and send it to support@kindleforgegames.com. We'll delete every report with that ID. Switching the statistics off also deletes any reports still waiting on your device.
- For data held by the ad partners (iPhone): contact Unity (links above).
- Complaints: you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.dk) or your local authority.
7. Changes
We will update this page when the game changes what it collects, change the date at the top and publish the new version at the same address. If the game ever starts to collect something new, it will ask you first.
